| Mary Rydingsward |
Though herparty nominated longtime activist Bruce Suchinski as its choice for registrarTuesday night, Rydingsward declared Wednesday that she will force an August 14primary for the $48,000-a-year position.
“Thisprimary will give each candidate an opportunity to run on his or her record,”Rydingsward said in a prepared statement. “My record will demonstratecharacter, integrity, and capability; three things needed to carry out fairelections.”
She saidthat in her 17 months on the job, she has “worked to improve the availabilityof handicapped parking for voters, to shorten lines at the polls, and toimplement a three-prong High School voter registration program, improving youthregistration in Bristol 200 percent.”
There aretwo registrars who cannot be from the same party. In Bristol, they have alwaysbeen a Republican and a Democrat.
RepublicanRegistrar Sharon Krawiecki got her party’s nod for another term recently. Thereis little chance of a GOP primary.
Generally, whoever wins each party’s backing is virtually certain to win the office.
