| Voter rolls in Bristol. |
Thecity’s registration rolls heading into Tuesday’s election are as high as they’veever been, topping even the tally four years ago for the historic presidentshowdown that elected President Barack Obama. There’sno indication that voters are especially unhappy with the Democrats either.Democratsoutnumber Republicans in Bristol by a greater than 2-to-1 margin, claiming theallegiance of 40 percent of the city’s 34,791 registered voters.Thoughunaffiliated voters make up a larger percentage – 41.9 percent – the Democratshave made gains since hitting a low point in 2004 when their hold on the electoratehad dwindled to 39.5 percent.Whatthe registration numbers translate to when people actually cast their ballots is, of course, the great unknown. Voters are notoriously unpredictable.
